Marfa Myths, the annual multidisciplinary festival programmed by Mexican Summer and Ballroom Marfa, returns for its sixth year to Marfa, Texas on Thu. Apr. 25th through Sun. Apr. 28th. Marfa Myths is known for bringing together a diverse range of emerging and established artists working creatively and collaboratively across music, film, and the visual arts, and the 2019 lineup promises to be the festival’s most eclectic and electrifying yet. Additionally, comedy is introduced to the program this year.
The first round of performers to be announced includes a host of Texan artists, either of origin or present, including Khruangbin, OG Ron C & The Chopstars, Jon Bap, and Money Chicha. Additionally, trailblazers Annette Peacock, Träd, Gräs och Stenar, Vivien Goldman, and The Space Lady, along with their contemporary peers Deerhunter, Nadah El Shazly, Cass McCombs, Photay, Emily A. Sprague, Jess Williamson, and comedians Kate Berlant and John Early will perform. More artists will be announced in early 2019.
Each year, Marfa Myths features artists in residence, an annual project between a Mexican Summer alumni and an artistic collaborator. This year’s recording artist in residence will pair Tim Presley with Drugdealer, the project of Michael Collins. The visual artist in residence will be Natalie Anne Howard. Additionally, Marfa Myths will host Connan Mockasin and Cate Le Bon as the festival’s respective painter and woodworker in residence.
Marfa Myths is inherently embedded in the landscape of Far West Texas and is deeply engaged with Marfa’s cultural history and present-day community. The festival strives to contribute to causes aligning with Marfa’s community. This year designated proceeds will benefit Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA), a nonprofit law firm that serves 68 counties in Southwest Texas. TRLA helps low-income clients find safety, protect their fundamental rights, and preserve their economic stability.
Weekend passes for all Marfa Myths events, excluding the standalone closing night at Crowley Theater, are available for purchase here. Early bird discount tickets are now sold out.
