Fusion Magazine talked to Joe Nava of LNSC about their upcoming 5 year anniversary party, past shows and the future.
How does it feel now that LNSC is 5 years old? Does it feel that long?
It’s kind of crazy, feels like it all just started. Doesn’t feel like 5 years at all.
What gave you the idea to start LNSC?
We were bored with the scene. There was a lack of real DJ culture and not enough cool events, so we figured we might have something to offer.
What was your first show as LNSC on the flyer?
First LNSC show was back in November of 2009 with James Curd from Greenskeepers.

How many shows have you had these 5 years with the LNSC name on it?
We’ve had about 120 events in the last 5 years.
Who was your favorite DJ you brought?
It’s hard to say; everyone we book we are big fans of and really enjoyed their sets. The most interesting might have been the first time we had Peanut Butter Wolf. Kids were standing in line for a really long time that night. Madlib was a crazy night too. The Terror, the first 3 years were just nuts. Shit Robot and The Rapture live were also some of our favorites. Like I said though we are huge fans of every single DJ we book and have loved just about every party.
(Hey Joe, Alex can answer this one) What happened to Questlove after he played? Why didn’t he stick around?
While we were waiting for Questlove’s plane to land, he had already jumped in a cab and was on his way to Chico’s Tacos. Dude jumped in a cab and went straight there. We didn’t meet him till sound check. He asked us what time he should be back to perform, we said 11 and he went back to his hotel. At about 10:45 he showed up wearing a Chico’s Tacos shirt to the venue. 4 hours later, when he finally finished his extended set, he ran off to his hotel cuz he said the Chico’s Tacos were kicking in. Haha!

What are some of the ridiculous riders (artist demands) some of the artist ask for?
Well, we usually deal with pretty down to earth artists, so it’s never been too crazy. Madlib’s rider had a fruit basket and some crazy rare ass wine but we later found out it was all his managers doing. He even laughed that we actually got him a fruit basket. Frankie Chan asked for a decoder ring and gossip magazines.
What DJs have been part of LNSC past and future?
Souldies aka D-Rex and Abel, DJ Dary Aire, DJ Polar, Joe N, Oh!, Slowhands aka Alex N, Hector Funk, Alfredo Maci, DJ Rich, Rob Bass, The Revelry aka Jason O & Lee Chavez, Glitterface, Kite Moths, Mr. B, Soulbomber, Jake Goldsmith (Phoenix), Eddy Cepeda and Becules. Our current line up: Joe N, Alex N, Jason O, Kite Moths, Rob Bass, Glitterface, Soulbomber and our newest addition Becules.
Which artist did you bring was the biggest Diva and why?
Talib Kweli and Dead Prez were the worst. Total fucking assholes. HA!

How has the support been these past 5 years?
It’s been amazing. We know just about everyone that comes out to our events. It feels like we have this huge family that wants to support and keep this whole thing going.
One of the most awesome moments was on one of our anniversary parties our buddy Jonathan stopped by really early on and quickly came up to the door paid door cover and then apologized because he had other plans and wasn’t able to stick around. That’s the kind of support we’ve been receiving. It’s been truly amazing.
What could we expect from the 5 year anniversary show this Saturday?
We are turning the inside room at The Garden into our own space for the night—visuals, great loud sound, dope lighting, bday balloons and we will also be giving away tickets for all our upcoming events. We also have to mention that this will be Aden aka Machinedrum’s second US performance as Aden. This is also Fort Romeau’s first time in Texas. I can’t explain how exciting this is and how lucky we are to host this line-up.
Whats next for LNSC?
We have an amazing schedule coming up for the winter and for spring. We’re going to try to launch a record label soon too. Possibly some more warehouse parties too. Lets just say shit is going to be crazy in 2015!
