On Monday, July 4th Marfa Live Arts will host their first Benefit Picnic. The funds raised from this event will provide essential support for future programs for both the schools and the community.

Marfa Live Arts distinguishes itself by focusing on both live performing arts events and innovative education programs, placing equal priority on both aspects. They have a long history of hosting local, national, and international artists in performance, and teaching, playwritingfilmmaking, songwriting and theater workshops in the schools in collaboration with Marfa ISD. Marfa Live Arts also donates instruments to the schools through their instrument donation program. Past instruments that have been donated include violins, accordions, a cello, guitars and a drum set.

In 2014, the Marfa Live Arts board mandated that all public programs be presented free to the public and all programs for the public schools are free to both Marfa Independent School District and their students.

The July 4th picnic theme is Caftans & Casseroles and guests are invited to lounge by the pool at the home of Sabrina Franzheim while enjoying food by Ranch 616Black Iron BBQ and spirits by Pura Vida Tequila. The event will conclude with a lively performance by La Banda, a student band formed during Camp Summer Shake Up with music teachers Juan T. Martinez, Manuela Martinez, David Beebe, and Primo Carrasco.
