Fun Fun Fun Fest 2014 took place at Auditorium Shores in downtown Austin, TX, November 7 – 9. The ninth edition of the fest featured live music, comedy, action sports (wrestling, skate & ride), live art, and various food, beverage, and retail vendors. The size and space of the festival grounds was huge and appropriate for the 4 stages, wrestling ring, skate area, and various other amenities FFF Fest provided its patrons. As a first time attendee, FFF Fest had a very relaxed and calm atmosphere which provided a unique experience—surprisingly, since the music and crowd was a mix of metal, punk, rock, hip-hop, electro dance, and hipsters. The music wasn’t the only element unifying this distinct blend of people as the air was filled with a delicious aroma that added to the peace and tranquility.
The music was amazing featuring headlining performances by Judas Priest, 2 Chainz, Alt-J, King Diamond, Girl Talk, Modest Mouse, Nas, Murder City Devils, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Wiz Khalifa. Our favorite performances came from Death From Above 1979, Wildcat! Wildcat!, Atmosphere, The Presets, Gary Numan, Deafheaven, Chelsea Wolfe, Failure, and Flying Lotus—whose 3D show was one of the best we’ve ever seen.
If the festival itself wasn’t enough to fill your appetite, FFF Fest also provided FFF Nites—which moved the music from the festival grounds to the after hours club scene on 6th Street. FFF Nites offered a stellar line-up of bands that included MSTRKRFT, Meat Puppets, Cass McCombs, MC Chris, and many more.
