CineMarfa Film Festival
CineMarfa is a non-profit organization devoted to supporting local and visiting filmmakers, sponsoring year-round film screenings in Marfa, providing educational opportunities for local youth and adults to make and present films, and producing the CineMarfa festival annually.
CineMarfa was founded in March of 2011 by a group of artists, filmmakers, and film lovers in order to promote the art and culture of film and filmmaking in Marfa. Amongst the many vibrant cultural organizations that call Marfa home, CineMarfa has taken up the mission to focus exclusively on film and video. All of the programs offered by CineMarfa are free of charge, and our organization is run by volunteers.
Since 2011, the CineMarfa film festival has distinguished itself from other film festivals by emphasizing the intersection between film and visual art. For five days each May, we screen around 20 films in the Crowley Theater and other spaces around town.
The CineMarfa film festival is dedicated to bringing rare, forgotten, or difficult-to-see films – including films that have been banned or censored – to light in far West Texas. Our focus is on films made by visual artists, as well as rarely screened archival, experimental, documentary, and narrative films. We also feature work by Texas artists, filmmakers, and other Texan film-related cultural producers, including some that call Marfa home. All of the screenings are free but reservations are strongly recommended. This year’s festival is May 1st – May 4th, 2014.
