Ballroom Marfa offers a free five-day DJ Camp for ages 7 – 17 at the beginning of this summer. Two DJ mentors will be sharing their knowledge for this year’s camp: DJ Bigface, teacher at the inaugural DJ Camp in 2010, and a musical educator in Austin’s DJ Dojo. Also Faith Gay who was already DJ Camp counselor in 2011 and 2012. She is a visual artist from the BFA University of Texas. Having exhibited all around the state, she brings her unique perspective on the art of DJ-ing in the dance floor.
This will be a hands-on-experience where students will operate real DJ equipment, being able to experiment by mixing songs and sampling music. DJ Bigface and Faith Gay will present the art of DJ-ing with all its cultural and historical background along with some basic music theory. The participants will also learn to design flyers and posters for promoting their own performances.
This DJ Camp will conclude with a free public performance by the participants at the Capri on Saturday, June 29, 4pm.
No fee for attendance. Class size is limited. Reserve your spot by emailing [email protected] or call 432-729-3600.
