ALIVE AUDIO BENEFITS LOCAL NON-PROFITS

Sound company Alive Audio and two local non-profit agencies are collaborating for the third and final Sheltered Hearts benefit show, Sunday, July 10th, at the El Maida Shrine auditorium. The show is a fundraising event, with proceeds going to the Reynolds Home, a women and children’s shelter, and Project C.H.A.N.C.E. (Creating Hope for Abused ad Neglected Children Everywhere), a grassroots effort to help prevent and end child abuse.

“We’re using the funds for our summer program,” said Star Lucero, Reynolds Home marketing rep and event planner. “We had to come up with an agenda for the summer to keep 20 kids busy, so we’re using the money [from the concert] to take the kids on field trips to the zoo, movies, and swimming, and to buy arts and crafts supplies.”

Sheltered Hearts was an idea that was conceived by Alive Audio founder and owner, Alex Vargas, earlier this year, when he decided to use his time, talent, energy, and resources to help offset some of the operational costs for the agencies.

“I wanted to do a music series to help out a non-profit, so me, Star, and Priscilla got together,” Vargas said. “I basically just planted the seeds, and they took over.”

The first Sheltered Hearts show took place in May and featured several local bands, food vendors, and prizes. The last show will showcase a more diverse set of talents, including bands, folklorico dancers, belly dancers, a DJ, and comedians. The organizers have also included a bike run in collaboration with local motorcycle club, Lumbre. Food and drinks will also be available. So far the series has raised about $1000.
