The Return: La Parada Celebrates 8 Years on Friday

In 2010, a group of artistic minds came together to create a grassroots festival celebrating art, music and culture in the city. From there La Parada, was born.

Taking place every first Friday of the month, La Parada is an invitation to experience El Paso’s creative energy in an unfiltered, unscripted, organic environment; it’s a social party for the community.

The event has built a steady following through the years with artists, musicians and partygoers coming in from all over the southwest and beyond. After a solid 2017, La Parada is back to kick off its 8th anniversary. From 8 pm to 2 am tomorrow at the San Carlos Building, La Parada will host their first party for 2018. And they’ve got a stellar lineup to celebrate.

Borderland band The Chamanas is headlining the event, and there’s an eclectic mix of talent to follow. Guests can look forward to a stimulating curation of house music courtesy of Vinn-e and DJ Rich, the local legends behind Elements, and GRVSRS—as in ‘grooveasaurus’, your favorite time-traveling android percussionist—will bring the beat. Get your cumbia fix from Mexicali-based Vivotropical, and vibe out to the galactic sounds of Juárez’s Mock the Zuma.

Of course, La Parada isn’t just about the music: it’s a social party that serves as a platform for live art. This time around 2 talented artists from Sicstudio will take to the panels. Come out to see what Ashes and Fernrok create.

The 501 Bar & Bistro will run a $1 taco and margarita special from 5 to 8 pm, so there’s no reason not to come out and support La Parada if you love art, music and borderland culture.
