The idea for Fusion Magazine was conceived 10 years ago, July 2007, in a small apartment in the colonia Hidalgo in Ciudad Juárez; our very first issue was born on September of the same year. We envisioned Fusion to be a voice that spoke positively about our border community—uniting us through art, music and culture. Ten years and one hundred issues later, we find ourselves reflecting on our coming of age as a print publication in a digital era.
To this day we continue to be a free and independent publication—a visual/cultural diary of the border. You can flip through any of our issues and reminisce on 10 years worth of local content. The path to our success has been paved by every single writer, collaborator, contributor, creative, artist, musician, photographer, reader and advertiser who believed in our motto, PRINT IS NOT DEAD. In a digital age where the majority of the public consumes media through a cellular devise, you make us relevant! You pick us up at our distribution points throughout El Paso, Las Cruces, Marfa, Alpine, Ciudad Juárez and Chihuahua, Mexico.
Our repertoire consists of border region movers and shakers that make our borderland a unique place to be proud of. It was always our intention to feature local talent first and foremost because we firmly believe in these artists and it’s important for us to promote their work. We’ve featured Jay J. Armes, Los Seven Teens, 6th Ramone Arturo Vega, Joe Dorgan, Jim Ward, Cedric Bixler and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez of At The Drive-In, Stan from the Headstand, Steve Crosno, Nestor Valencia, George Reynoso of All That Music, Congressman Beto O’Rourke, former Mayor John Cook and State Representative Mary Gonzalez.
We’ve also spoken to big acts like Mark Farina, Gary Numan, Peanut Butter Wolf, Tommy Chong, Wayne Static of Static X, Suicide Girl Bob Suicide, Paul Collins, Moby, Ghostland Observatory, Instituto Mexicano del Sonido, Nortec, Chuck D of Public Enemy, Sen Dog of Cypress Hill, Amy Nicoletto, Scott Snibbe, Tyler Mane, Billy D. La idea de Fusion Magazine fue concebida hace 10 años, en julio del 2007, en un pequeño departamento de la colonia Hidalgo en Ciudad Juárez; nuestro primer número nació en septiembre de ese mismo año. Imaginamos Fusion como una voz que hablara positivamente acerca de la comunidad de la frontera, uniéndonos a través del arte, música y cultura. 10 años después, y 100 números más tarde, nos encontramos refleccionando en nuestro coming of age como una publicación en la era digital.
Hasta el día de hoy continuamos siendo una publicación libre e independiente, un diario cultural y visual de la frontera. En cualquiera de nuestros números puedes hojear y recordar 10 años de contenido local. El camino al éxito ha sido marcado por cada escritor/a, colaborador/a, contribuidor/a, creativo/a, artista, músico/a, fotógrafo/a, lector/a y anunciante que ha creído en nuestro lema: PRINT IS NOT DEAD. En una era digital en la que la mayoría del público consume el contenido a través de un celular, ¡tú nos mantienes relevantes!
