Fusion Magazine #72

Fusion Magazine presents Issue 72 featuring the 5th annual Texas Showdown Festival. In this issue we have an in depth one on one conversation with the master mind behind TSF George Galindo about his emergence onto the tattoo scene as well as his idea turned reality—the Texas Showdown Festival. We preview the music of the Deftones, Drowning Pool and Wu-Tang Clan—all of whom will headline the music portion of the TSF. We also highlight the art of 4 very talented El Paso ink masters, Myker Yrrobali of Sun City Tattoo, Lil’ Alex Inostroza of Pumping Ink Tattoo, Daniel Santiesteban of House of Pain Tattoo and Eric Ward of West Texas Tattoo. We spoke with Reverend Tommy Gunn of The Freak Show Deluxe about the dangerous and bizarre unconventional art of using their bodies as a form of entertainment. To round out our tattoo portion of the issue we present a photo shoot by artist Dr. Mongo featuring 3 beautiful El Paso based tattooed models.

Changing pace from our tattoo content we review the album Full Circle by El Paso based band Ribo Flavin. We talk with Robin Lambaria about the return of the Marfa Film Festival which premiers 4th of July weekend in Marfa, TX. Staying on the subject of film festivals, we highlight evolve Federal Credit Union’s annual evolution Film Festival which offers local up and coming film makers the opportunity to submit short films for a chance to win a cash prize. The Lincoln Center located in the area often referred to as ‘El Corazon de El Paso’ has been the center of controversy as of late as the threat of demolition hangs over it and we discuss a little bit of its history. Last month legendary power-pop icon Paul Collins headlined a show at the Lowbrow Palace and we caught up with him for an exclusive interview as he made his first ever appearance in El Paso.

Our Spanish content is as solid as our English. This issue we catch up with Chihuahua based jazz/funk band The Guadalupe Funk Machine and talk with them about their unique blend of sound. We also preview Corona Capital 2014—a music festival which takes place in Mexico D.F. and features a stellar music line-up to include Jack White, Massive Attack and Beck to name a few. While on the topic of music, we present hip hop wild child Brooke Candy whose image and persona has been setting the world on fire! Lastly, our Fusion Gallery features the art of Héctor M. López—a graduate of the prestigious National Autonomous University of Mexico attaining a degree in architecture but also specializes in illustrations, tattoo art and has recently released a lithograph series of various animals.

Once again we’d like to thank all of our clients, collaborators, contributors and you—our very own Fusion readers who keep up with us issue after issue. Until next time…
