Chicano Batman will release Freedom Is Free next week (March 3) via ATO Records but you can listen to the album in full courtesty of NPR’s FIRST LISTEN. Produced by Leon Michels (El Michels Affair, The Arcs) the album foregrounds the soul and R&B elements of the band’s sound, truly captuing the band’s live energy, bringing their aesthetic goals to life. Oliver Wang at NPR urges you to, “Dive into a sound that blends Rio de Janiero’s tropicalia, Lima’s cumbia, and American soul and funk.”

In addition to NPR Music, Freedom Is Free is being lauded by Noisey, LA Times, The Guardian, LA Weekly, Magnet, FLOOD, CLASH, UNCUT and more. The organ-driven soul jam “Friendship (Is A Small Boat In A Storm)” has been added to tastemaker stations across the country including SiriusXMU, KCRW, WFUV, WXPN and KCMP (The Current), to name a few.

You may have noticed the band as the face of a new Johnnie Walker ad, reimagining Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land”, which aired during the Grammys. The video is now over one million views on YouTube and counting.

Chicano Batman starts a national headlining tour tonight for a SOLD OUT show in Seattle, performing live on KEXPthis afternoon at 1:30pm EST and running down the coast for a hometown release show (which sold out in less than an hour) at The Roxy on March 4.

The tour continues to SXSW, across the country and back for a return to Coachella, Forecastle Festival and Green Riverfestival with more summer festivals to be added.
